Reliability Performance Data and Metrics
Reliability Performance Data and Metrics
Electricity reliability performance data and metrics are essential for managing reliability because they provide an objective basis from which to evaluate actions taken to maintain or improve U.S. electric power system reliability. This EMP research improves the quality, availability, and usefulness of electricity performance data and metrics.
In close collaboration with leading industry organizations—such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer’s Distribution Reliability Working Group and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s Performance Analysis Subcommittee—EMP works to promote best practices in the definition and uses of reliability performance metrics. It also supports efforts by the U.S. Energy Information Administration to make publicly disseminate consistently defined information on reliability performance. In addition, EMP develops new information on aspects of reliability not captured by other means, such as trends in consumer adoption of standby generation and power quality-enhancing technologies.
