Technical Assistance

Analyzing emerging issues in distributed renewable energy and storage

Technical Assistance

We provide technical assistance on the regulations, programs, and policies affecting distributed renewable energy and storage technologies to industry, regulatory, and policy decision-makers in the U.S. and internationally.

Distributed renewable energy and storage deployment is affected by regulations, programs, and policies at the local, state, territorial, and national levels. EMP provides technical assistance to a wide array of industry, regulatory, and policy decision-makers, in the U.S. and internationally. For example, we support efforts to evaluate the grid services provided by these resources; reform export compensation policies to better reflect the value they provide to the grid; integrate third-party aggregators into retail electric markets; and create opportunities to utilize these resources in utility programs, including as virtual power plants. Our technical assistance directly supports key stakeholders with deliverables that meet their unique needs, such as technical analyses and review memos; and indirectly supports them with deliverables that educate, inform, and build foundational capacity, such as workshops and training.
