Strengthening the reliability and resilience of the power system

Technical Assistance

We provide reliability- and resilience-related training for decision-makers and technical assistance to government agencies, utilities, and the private sector.

Regulators and policymakers often ask EMP to provide targeted training to staff on topics associated with power system reliability and resilience. These trainings include introducing performance- and attribute-based metrics to measure reliability and resilience, evaluating regional reliability trends, and providing guidance on how to incorporate the value of reliability and resilience into investment decisions.

EMP frequently gives presentations to a wide range of stakeholder groups interested in power system reliability and resilience, including the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power and Energy Society, U.S. Department of Energy Electricity Advisory Committee, Independent System Operators (ISOs), and public utility commissions. Presentations often address how to estimate the economic impact of power interruptions, the value of improving reliability and resilience, and the costs and benefits of strategies and technologies that mitigate power interruptions.
