Community Impacts and Public Acceptance

Renewable energy development—including wind and solar—impacts individuals and local communities in myriad ways. The EMP Department:

  • Investigates impacts to communities surrounding utility-scale wind and solar power projects, including analyses of residential property values and community economics and services
  • Assesses if and how much residential solar systems increase home sales prices and explores tools to enhance the visibility of solar during property sales
  • Provides wind turbine locations and characteristics to federal agencies for the purpose of assessing impacts to radar systems via the U.S. Wind Turbine Database
  • Assesses community attitudes towards wind project development, including through a national baseline survey
  • Provides technical assistance on the assessment and management of public acceptance issues related to renewable energy
