LBNL conducts in-depth analyses of the solar energy market in the United States, focusing on the potential benefits, costs, and barriers to solar power deployment.

Our two flagship solar energy publications are the annual Tracking the Sun (TTS) report, which describes trends in the installed price of distributed photovoltaic (PV) systems in the United States, and the annual Utility-Scale Solar (USS) report, which describes cost, pricing, performance, and technology trends for utility-scale solar projects.

We supplement these recurring reports with additional research projects in the fields of:

  • Solar energy economics, price trends, and benefits
  • Policies and regulations affecting the solar market
  • Public acceptance of solar power
  • Solar power finance
  • Solar power valuation and integration

This work is primarily funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.
