Jennifer (“Jennie”) Potter recently joined LBNL as a Sr. Scientific Engineering Associate, where she will be working on demand response research. Prior to joining LBL, Jennie worked at Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) in several different roles. Most recently, she was the Enterprise Performance Data Manager where her responsibilities were to assist in the transition and implementation of the SMUD data governance strategy and analytics initiative. She has worked as the Principal Market Analyst in the Pricing and Resource Planning department at SMUD, where she helped lead the 2015 rate case preprocess and conducted analysis and simulations on load data for the utility.
Jennie spent three years as the Project Manager on SMUD’s SmartSacramento team working on the Department of Energy ARRA grant funded Consumer Behavior Study, currently known as SmartPricing Options pricing pilot. Jennie was responsible for the pilot's marketing, implementation, procurement efforts, data collection and management of the evaluation team for the interim and final evaluation of the pilot.
While at SMUD, she has also worked as the customer strategy planner for residential and small commercial energy efficiency and incentive programs in the Customer Services Department, where she planned, budgeted and coordinated a number of programs related to Energy Efficiency.
Prior to her time at SMUD, Jennie worked at City of Roseville, Roseville Electric, as the principal load and revenue forecaster, load researcher, and business analyst for the utility. She worked extensively with statistics and sampling of load data, statistical modeling software, and customer information systems and managing and analyzing large data sets.
Jennie has authored a number of publications on various topics including big data, predictive analytics, the implementation of SMUD's Consumer Behavior Study, cloud-based customer service for utilities, and has presented at various forums throughout the U.S. and abroad.
She holds a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management from the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Economics from Southern Oregon University.
