Dr. Naïm Darghouth is a Research Scientist in the Electricity Markets and Policy Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He is currently on assignment for 2022-2023 in Tunisia working as a strategic advisor to USAID and energy stakeholders on programmatic planning, project design, analytical tasks, and other tasks on energy related issues. He is also serving as a liason for the US DOE National Laboratories to assist in the development of analytical and institutional support tasks to be led by National Lab researchers.
Naïm conducts research on renewable energy policy and economics. Specifically, he examines the relationships between distributed energy markets, retail electricity rate design, and customer economics of renewables, amongst a wide range of topics.
Naïm has been the senior economic expert on US national lab teams providing international institutional support on the financial impacts of distributed solar to governments, electricity utilities and regulators worldwide, having worked on projects in Ghana, Vietnam, Mexico, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and India.
Having joined Berkeley Lab in 2009, Naïm has published over 70 journal articles, reports, conference papers, and briefings, including journal articles in Environmental Research Letters, Applied Energy, Energy Policy, and Renewable Energy. Naïm has a Ph.D. and MS from the Energy and Resources Group at UC Berkeley, a MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Tech, and a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University.
