Electrical panel capacity, breaker space, and loads in U.S. single-family homes

Electrical panel capacity, breaker space, and loads in U.S. single-family homes

April 2, 2026

This webinar will present findings from a recent LBNL/NLR article published in the Journal of Building Engineering: Characterizing electrical panel capacity, breaker space, and loads in U.S. single-family homes. The presenters share nationwide estimates of electrical panel capacity, available breaker space, and the headroom available in the panels for additional loads. These estimates are important for determining the costs and grid impacts of adding new loads to single-family homes.
