DER Interconnection Solutions for a Reliable and Secure Grid
Adoption of established technical standards, practices, and tools is essential for ensuring reliable electricity service with distributed energy resources (DERs) like solar, energy storage, and gas generators connecting to local utility grids. While some states and utilities have adopted IEEE 1547-2018, standards in the rest of the country are incomplete or outdated (see map). Other industry best practices can screen DER projects for reliability, address cybersecurity risks, and identify mitigation options when necessary.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will host a public webinar on December 16, 2025, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern, to discuss how to maintain a reliable and secure grid with high levels of DERs. Kathryn Chelminski and Lisa Schwartz, Berkeley Lab, will moderate a robust discussion with the panelists and webinar audience.
Adoption Status of IEEE 1547-2018 Standard
This is the fifth in a series of webinars that discuss solutions advanced through the DER Interconnection Roadmap by the U.S. Department of Energy's Interconnection Innovation e-Xchange (i2X). The roadmap identifies a wide range of solutions to address challenges for interconnecting energy resources to distribution and sub-transmission grids.
