U.S. Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaics Database - Release of a new geospatial dataset

November 16, 2023

This webinar highlights key information from the new Berkeley Lab and U.S. Geological Survey research entitled “Georectified polygon database of ground-mounted large-scale solar photovoltaic sites in the United States.” The researchers will discuss the development of the United States Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic Database (USPVDB), a new comprehensive dataset of ground-mounted commercial U.S. large-scale solar photovoltaic energy facility locations, covering nearly 3,700 facilities across 47 states plus Washington, D.C., and including facilities that became operational between 1986 and the end of 2021. This publicly available database includes hand-drawn polygons depicting solar arrays, carefully digitized using high-resolution aerial imagery, along with detailed facility attributes, including size of the array area, panel technology type, axis type, year of installation, and rated capacity to produce electricity. The work was made possible through funding support of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Energy Technologies Office.
