Analyzing emerging issues in distributed energy and storage

Rate Design, Regulations, & Programs

We research how electricity rate design, policies, regulations, and programmatic efforts impact the adoption and economics of distributed energy and storage.

Electricity rate design, state and local regulations, and programmatic efforts all play critical roles in shaping distributed energy markets. EMP researches how these factors impact the adoption and economics of distributed energy and storage. Past work includes investigating the effects of local permitting processes; analyzing the financial impacts of distributed energy on utility shareholders and ratepayers; evaluating low-income programs; assessing various financing and incentive programs; and conducting numerous studies on the customer and power-system economics of distributed energy and storage under various retail electricity rate structures.
