Analyzing emerging issues in distributed energy and storage
Grid Integration & Planning
We analyze how distributed resources impact grid reliability, operations, and planning, and how they can be integrated cost-effectively to deliver unique benefits to the power system.
Distributed energy and storage pose specific challenges but also offer unique value to the electric grid. EMP conducts research into the impacts of distributed energy resources on grid reliability, operations, and planning, and how these resources can be reliably and cost-effectively integrated into power systems and combined with other end-use technologies. Past research includes analyzing how distributed energy and storage impact the reliability of local grids; assessing how distributed resources are treated in utility resource plans; showing how improved distributed energy adoption forecasts can improve planning outcomes; and analyzing how distributed storage can help integrate higher levels of distributed energy on local distribution networks.
